Madrid's December bank holiday weekend 2026: where to go out

Madrid's early-December long weekend can be an opportunity for a city break, a reunion with friends or a night out before Christmas. In 2026 the calendar makes it especially appealing: Sunday 6 December is followed by a holiday on Monday 7 and another on Tuesday 8 in the Community of Madrid. That does not mean every nightclub opens on every night. The useful approach is to choose the dates first and then check which events are actually taking place.

Which dates make up the 2026 long weekend?

In the Community of Madrid, the Constitution holiday falls on Sunday 6 December and is observed on Monday 7; Tuesday 8 is the Immaculate Conception. The dates appear in the regional decree published in the official gazette. For many people the break runs from Saturday 5 to Tuesday 8, although work schedules vary.

For a late-night event, the ticket’s start date is the date to follow. A session beginning on Sunday 6 may finish on Monday 7; one beginning on Monday 7 may finish on Tuesday 8. Check the date and time on each ticket.

Choosing a district for your group

Moncloa and Argüelles are useful starting points for a younger, student-oriented club night, with venues such as MON, Copérnico and Epoka. Around Nuevos Ministerios and Orense you can compare a different set of club formats. The Salamanca area and other central districts offer further options, but proximity alone does not determine the right evening.

If the group is visiting Madrid for the first time, pick the main venue before settling on a restaurant or late-night route. It is easier to enjoy the evening when everyone knows where to meet and how they will get home, rather than crossing the city between uncertain events.

For this particular weekend, the order of decisions matters. Start with the night you can actually attend, rather than picking the club from an old list of favourites. A Friday ticket is not interchangeable with a Saturday ticket, even where the promoter or venue is the same. If friends are arriving by train or plane, allow for possible delays and check whether admission closes at a specified time. A sensible group plan leaves room for dinner, the journey to the venue and identification checks at the door. The most helpful comparison is often between two confirmed events on the same date, not between two clubs in the abstract.

One listed event: Sábado Fitz on Saturday 5

The calendar already lists Sábado Fitz for Saturday 5 December. It is one concrete option for the long weekend, not evidence that every venue opens on all four nights. Check each venue page for the other dates.

Then choose by music and the terms of that session. A venue can change its genre, promoter and age limit from one night to another; last year’s video does not confirm this year’s line-up.

Buying tickets for more than one night

It can be tempting to book several nights in one go. First compare event dates, arrival deadlines, cancellation rules and whether drinks are included. A ticket for Saturday does not confer access on Sunday, even at the same venue. Promotional prices and sold-out categories can also be specific to a session.

Agree with the group which evening is essential and which is optional. That avoids buying non-transferable tickets for friends who later decide to travel home. Save the original confirmations and check the accepted identity documents before departure.

VIP tables for reunions and group celebrations

The long weekend can bring together people who do not normally live in Madrid. If you want a shared space, a VIP table may make organising the night easier, but the quote must match the date and number of guests. Ask what drinks or minimum spend are included, and whether any service charges or extras apply.

For larger groups, establish the venue's capacity rules before collecting payments. A minimum-spend figure divided by eight is not a meaningful per-person price if the actual table only admits six. Get the terms in writing so everyone knows what has been reserved.

A one-night or two-night itinerary

For one night, choosing the event first and building dinner and transport around it is usually the simplest approach. For two nights, you might deliberately vary the area or music rather than repeat the same plan. This works best when both sessions are confirmed, not when the itinerary relies on what a club 'normally' does.

Keep realistic travel times in mind and allow for a quieter morning if you are sightseeing. A packed schedule can make the second evening less enjoyable. The aim is to make good use of the holiday, not to spend it constantly travelling between venues.

If you are organising more than one evening, keep the bookings separate in your budget. Record the event date, payment amount, number of tickets and the contact details associated with each purchase. It is worth agreeing in advance who will make the booking and how you will split costs if someone drops out. With a VIP table, request written confirmation of the guest limit and whether everybody's admission is covered. These details are easy to overlook while arranging a reunion, yet they make the difference between a smooth arrival and a group negotiating at the entrance.

A final checklist before you travel

Check dated event announcements, paid ticket links, admission ages, acceptable identification and any dress or arrival rules. If you are booking a VIP table, verify capacity, minimum spend, included products and payment terms. Keep the bookings for each night separate and clearly labelled.

When asking for suggestions, send us the exact dates you are in Madrid, the group size, ages, budget and preferred music. That is more useful than a vague request for 'something during the bridge' and helps avoid confusing a confirmed event with an old listing.
